Yes, it switches off once boiled. I would recommend you don't fill it too full as it takes a second or 2 to switch off and hot water can boil out of the spout if it is overfilled.

I do not know what the plugs/ voltages are in mexico but you can buy a travel plug adaptor from argos. The kettle is dual voltage

A quick net search suggests voltage standard in mexico to be 127v using american style 2 or 3 pin plugs

the kettle is rated at 100 to 127 and 220 to240 v ( selectable by switch underneath)

so yes it should work but...

it is supplied with a standard 3 pin 13amp uk mains plug you will therefore need a travel adaptor or to have an appropriate plug fitted.

Dry with the 2 supplied cups and including the fitted standard 3 pin uk mains plug, a little over 1 lb (imperial) or about 500g

Filled with water to "max" mark with water and without the 2 suplied cups, about 2 lb (imperial) or a little less than 1kg
( a little less than a bag of sugar)

It has a small filter built into the lid, but it is not a fine mesh filter. Good product though.
