It can handle a variety of materials including denim. You can adjust the pressure of the presser foot, length of stitches and tension of upper thread...and of course change the needle too.

Hi, thank you for your question.

This machine features 24 manual stitches which makes it durable enough to handle heavy materials such as denim with ease.

Question
Is this machine compatible with feet made for other brands i.e. Janome narrow hemmer?
In fact, is there such a thing as a 'standard' type of foot attachment for most machines? (You can tell I'm a complete novice at all this!)

i would probably not use feet from other machines, think they may all be slightly different, and could damage your machine. sure others will be able to confirm whether thats the case. brother can supply extra attachments at reasonable cost, and prob cheaper than having to repair your machine if damage caused.

The bobbins supplied were plastic but I found my metal ones from my old machine fitted and worked well I also tried interchanging the foot attachment .I think it depends on your make of other brand machine. My old machine was a Singer.

set the stitch you want on the left hand dial, then set the right hand dial to ss, and you will get the alternative stitch for that letter. Should work OK

Hi, thanks for your question.

You should be able to do both Straight stitch and Satin stitch using this machine on a manual setting. If you need technical help with your machine, please contact the manufacturer's helpline you will find in your instruction manual.

Question
auto needle threader
What does this mean?
I have poor eyesight and my old machine had an attachment which threaded the needle for me. I purchased this machine as it said one of the features was "auto needle threader'. On looking at the instructions and the machine it seems that threading is done by hand. Not what I wanted!

Question
Can this Machine do Hemming?

Answer(s)
The Machine has 2 "Blind Hem Stitch" settings one for "Stretch" fabrics and one for "firm" fabrics and is supplied with a blind hem guide.

So if you are an experienced user should not be a problem.

But if you are a novice it will take a bit of practice and patience ( as does learning any new skill)

Not too difficult if you are hemming a long flat peice of fabric like curtains or maybe a skirt, although you may need to experiment with the tension, but not so easy on trouser legs. ( Cheat use "wonder web" )

On the otherhand if you just want to hem something and are not fussed about the stitches showing or even want the stitches showing for decorative effect, no problem.
