There is no battery life, I fully charge it before turning off and the next time I put it on the battery is completely flat. It is impossible to use without plugging it in.
I have tried to get help from MSI but to no avail.

The battery life is certainly not anywhere near 8 hours. 2 maybe 3 hours at best if you turn everything off and use the screen on very dim. The 8 hours is the quote for the 5200mAh battery (6 cells) but the one supplied is the lighter 2200mAh (3 cells). I haven't been able to locate a replacement battery for this yet anywhere and it is certainly not living up to the spec I bought it or. Very annoyed about that..

Although battery life does depend upon usage there are two versions of this model a 3 and a 6 cell battery. it is more helpful to know the mAh of the battery as this would give an approximate battery life, most single core netbooks have a 6 cell battery so it is likely that the battery life me ony be up to 4 hours as the 6 cell msi netbook of this model according to their website lasts up to 8. please could you provide me with the mAH.

Most netbooks benefit from an upgrade to the RAM and this one is no exception. However, be aware that even though the RAM on this unit can be increased - as confirmed by Argos - to do so would invalidate the warranty on this netbook.

However since there isn't a CD/DVD drive you'll have to attach an external portable CD/DVD drive to install from CD.
You may also install it if you have an image (.ISO) of your installation CD and run it from the various available Free Virtual DVD Drives software without needing a physical drive.
There is a third option to install from SD/MMC/USB Pen Drive...
