If your phone is digital and plugs into a three pin socket (as well as a phone line) it needs electricity to work. If you have a phone that only plugs into the telephone line, then it doesn't need electricity to work.

In case of emergency I have a basic phone-line-only phone plugged into the phone socket. It doesn't rely on electricity to work so will work during a power failure.

I would think it was your type of phone. The telephone power is on a separate power line than your mains electric and will not effect your incoming / outgoing calls if your mains fails. When the phones are fully charged (takes about 5 hours when battery is allowed to go flat or first time charge) they last approximately 7 days when left out of the charging units, so I do not see any problem. I have turned my mains off, but there is still a dialling tone on the phones

Having actually gone out and bought one of these, I can confirm that the base station is not wall-mountable, but the charger is. Now I'm off to take it back to Argos.

Hello, thank you for your question.

I have checked and only the main handset base needs to be plugged into a landline phone socket. The secondary unit will connect wirelessly to the first.

Thanks for using Argos Q&A.

Hi, thank you for your question.

I have looked into this for you and I do apologise we do not sell a replacement handset for this phone, depending on when you purchased this from us we could see whether you are still within your warranty. If brought from store return with proof of purchase and they can look into this for you, if you had the item home delivered please contact Customer Services with order number or full delivery address details, where we will be able to see whether you are liable for a replacement.

Thank you for using Argos Q&A.
