Hi, thank you for your question.

Having looked into your query, I can confirm that the Hygena Millard Double Bed Frame will support a mattress that has dimensions that are less than W-145 x L-209cm.

When using a mattress on this bed, you have to take into consideration the thickness of bed frame.

Thank you for using Q & A.

Question
How does the bed lift up?
Hi, i am looking for a bed for storage and really like the look of this but i'm wondering how the mattress lifts up, does it stay in position so you can put / take things from it or do you have to hold it up?

There is a strap positioned at the end on the bed frame to assist lifting. Once the frame and mattress have been lifted to their full height they will remain in position. Leaving your hands free to stow your things.

Is there a weight limit for the storage area or for the opening "lid"?

There is only a thin card floor to the storage area. I have only stored bags and clothes underneath. There is plenty of room but keep all items away from the hinges to prevent them catching.

There is a lightweight flat base which you lay on top of the open base to keep your items off the floor. I opened up the lid of the box the bed had come in and placed this under the lightweighte base to give it a little more solidityas I did find it a little flimsy.
You can store an enormous amount under the bed - we are using it for clothes and have a couple of boxes under there.
You do have to be careful with the top as it is fairly heavy once the matress and bedding are on there and you must open it fully or gravity and the weight will force it back down.

Question
Does this bed have a base for the contents of the ottoman to rest on or do they sit on the bedroom floor?
Been looking at these types of beds for some time but some are just a box frame with no actual bottom. This means that if you store bed linen it will be on the floor and not held within the bed itself. Also, not as sturdy as "complete" beds

Hi, thank you for your question.

I have looked into your query and I can tell you that the Hygena Millard Double Bed Frame has a wooden base panel. Items stored inside would not be on the floor.

Thanks for using Argos Q&A.

Why don't the gas struts work even though all put together properly and checked by 4 people

Answer(s)
The struts should be fully extended when you get them in the box and impossible to move in or out before they are fitted. They should only provide the dampening effect when actually fitted to the bed. If you can move the struts in and out before fitting then they aren't working and need changing as they won't hold the bed up when raised. They have to be very stiff to operate as they support the whole weight of the bed and mattress when raised.
